After a couple of rounds with tropical storm Micheal, we were left with a fiery sky at sunset! Micheal was still a formidable storm after traveling over land from the gulf of Mexico. There are always wonderful sunsets with interesting clouds just before a tropical storm. Even the moon made an appearance! Florence is now a mere Cat 2 storm, yet it is still very powerful and large. The storm will make landfall on the NC coast later today and fortunately it will track south of us but we will still experience wind and torrential rains for the next 4 days. Mingo Falls is located on the Cherokee Indian Reservation in the Smokey Mountains of NC. There is a hike to the falls about 1/4 mile. However, there seems to be some inconsistencies about the height of the falls, ranging from 120 to 200 ft. I thought this was is a magnificent view, but locals say its spectacular after periods of heavy rains.
