Snow Goose
Feb 16
Snow geese also winter near coastal NC. Although they had left the area already, I found this little guy still hanging around in a nearby corn field. Farmers who have crops in the wildlife refuge area are asked to leave a portion of their seed crops for the wintering birds to feed on.

on February 17, 2021Sometimes a goose is injured or for some reason can't fly off with the flock when they migrate. They often don't survive on their own--hopefully this one is just "running late" and will be able to get to the right destination.
